If you are writing CBSE board exams in 2027, there is one form you will probably never fill yourself, but which decides a lot about your exam: the List of Candidates (LOC). Your school submits it to CBSE. But if your name is misspelt, your date of birth is wrong or the wrong Maths paper is selected, you are the one who suffers.
The last date to submit the LOC with the normal fee is 21 October 2026. CBSE has reminded schools about this deadline, and news reports from 18 October say the same. So this week is the right time to check your details. Here is what LOC means, the dates that matter, and a simple checklist you can take to your class teacher tomorrow.
What is the CBSE LOC?
LOC stands for List of Candidates. It is the official list of students that each CBSE school sends to the board for the Class 10 and Class 12 main exams. For every student, it carries personal details and the subjects they will write.
Think of it as the base record for your board exam. As the Daily Jagran report puts it, the LOC holds essential student information and selected subjects, and errors in it can cause difficulties in later exam procedures.
Regular students do not register themselves. Schools log in to the CBSE portal with their affiliation number and submit the data, as FindMyCollege explains. Private candidates register on their own through cbse.gov.in.
CBSE LOC 2026-27: key dates

According to the CBSE circular as reported by PW and FindMyCollege:
| Step | Online payment | Challan payment |
|---|---|---|
| Portal opens | 24 Sep 2026 | 24 Sep 2026 |
| Last date, normal fee | 21 Oct 2026 | 17 Oct 2026 |
| Late fee window | 22–30 Oct 2026 | 22–26 Oct 2026 |
| Data correction window | 2–4 Nov 2026 | 2–4 Nov 2026 |
Two rules matter most for you:
- No extensions. The portal closes at 11:59 PM on each last date.
- After the correction window, details are locked. Once the LOC is final, no correction, subject change or addition is allowed, except during the 2–4 November verification window.
What does it cost?
For schools in India, the exam fee is ₹1,600 for five subjects and ₹320 for each extra subject. Class 12 students pay ₹160 per subject with a practical. If the school misses 21 October, there is a late fee of ₹2,000 per student on top. Visually impaired candidates are exempt from the exam fee. (Fees as listed by PW and FindMyCollege.)
So if your school collects the fee from you, paying on time also saves your family ₹2,000.
Your 8-point LOC checklist

Ask your class teacher to show you your LOC entry, or the printout the school uses to verify it. Then check each of these, one by one:
- Your name. Every letter, exactly as in your school records. "Mohd." vs "Mohammad" or a missing surname can create trouble later on marksheets.
- Parents' or guardian's names. Spelling and order.
- Date of birth. It must match your school admission record.
- Subjects and subject codes. This is where most mix-ups happen. Check Maths Standard vs Maths Basic (Class 10), Hindi A vs Hindi B, and any optional or skill subject. PW notes that subjects cannot be changed after submission.
- Category. Regular, Essential Repeat or Improvement. Most of you will be Regular.
- Photograph. Recent, clear and actually yours.
- APAAR ID. It is optional for this LOC, as per PW. If your APAAR ID is already linked, just check that the number is right.
- CWSN status. If you need any support on exam day as a Child With Special Needs, make sure it is marked correctly.
If you find a mistake
Do not panic, and do not wait. Tell your class teacher the same day, in writing if possible (a short note or a message on the school group is fine). Carry proof: your Class 9 admission record, birth certificate or Aadhaar for the date of birth, for example.
If the LOC is already submitted, the school can still fix it during 2–4 November. After that, CBSE says changes will not be entertained.
Why the subject choice matters more than you think
Choosing Maths Basic or Standard in Class 10 is not only a form detail. It decides which question paper you practise for, and some schools also look at it for Class 11 subject choices. So before your subject is locked, talk to your Maths teacher and your parents once more:
- Look at your last two unit-test or half-yearly Maths marks.
- Check what Class 11 stream you are aiming for and what your school requires for it.
- Decide now, and then stop worrying about it. The next three months are for practice, not doubt.
What to do after your LOC is locked
Once your details are confirmed, your list of board papers is fixed. That is actually good news: you know exactly what to prepare for. Use the next few weeks well:

- Make a subject-wise list of chapters for each of your five subjects, straight from the NCERT contents page.
- Mark each chapter as strong, okay or weak, honestly.
- Start previous-year questions now, not in February. Solving chapter-wise past papers early shows you how CBSE frames questions.
- Keep your admit card checklist ready. Admit cards come much later, but when they arrive, check that the name, photo and subjects match what you verified in the LOC.
Board exams for Class 12 are expected to begin in mid-February 2027, as per FindMyCollege. That means you have roughly four months. A clean LOC is step one; steady practice is everything after it.
How SeekhoSmart helps once your subjects are locked
Your LOC fixes your subjects. Now the job is to practise exactly those papers. SeekhoSmart, an NCERT-based learning platform for Class 9–12, has a 10-year PYQ bank tagged by chapter. Pick Maths Standard or Basic, Science or any of your subjects, and practise the past questions chapter by chapter, starting with the ones you marked weak.
The adaptive daily plan then turns your four months into small daily targets, so you are not cramming in February. And when you get a question wrong, the AI explanation shows you where your method slipped, not just the right answer.
