If your school's CBSE affiliation is due for extension, 2026 has not been a simple year. The SARAS 7.0 portal had downtime, deadlines were extended, and compliance and inspection timelines were revised along with them. Many principals and school managers are now searching for the same thing: what is the CBSE extension of affiliation last date for 2027-28, and what do we still need to do?
This guide brings together what has been officially announced and reported, a practical document checklist, and the steps to follow on SARAS — so your affiliation file is complete, accurate and on time.
What has changed for the 2027-28 affiliation session
Here's the timeline from the reports we checked:
- 26 February 2026 — the schedule was set. CBSE's Circular No. 07/2026 laid out the timelines for the different categories of affiliation applications for the 2027-28 session, as reported by Careers360. One guide on the process gives the original window as 26 February to 31 July 2026.
- July 2026 — deadline extended to 30 September 2026. After reviewing the timelines, CBSE extended the last date for online applications in all categories under SARAS 7.0 to 30 September 2026. The Free Press Journal and Careers360 both note that the SARAS portal had been non-functional for a period, and timelines that expired during that time were extended.
- Compliance windows were extended too. Schools that had to submit compliance after grant got an additional 30 days from the date of the notification. Schools asked to remove deficiencies at the Part-A level got 15 days.
- Inspection timelines were revised. The extension covered consent by inspection committee members, fixing inspection dates, conducting inspections and submitting inspection reports.
Important: the 30 September date has now passed, and timelines have moved more than once this year. Before you act, open the circulars section of saras.cbse.gov.in and check whether any later circular applies specifically to Extension of Affiliation for 2027-28. When we checked the portal on 26 October 2026, the circulars page wasn't loading, so try again or confirm with your regional office.
Who needs to act now
- Schools whose affiliation is due for extension and have not yet applied — check the latest circular for any window that's still open.
- Schools that applied but have pending compliance — your deadline is usually counted from the date of the relevant notification or letter, not from your application date.
- Schools with a Part-A deficiency flagged — the window is short (15 days in the July notification), so treat it as urgent.
- Schools awaiting inspection — make sure the inspection committee has everything on the day.
Document checklist for extension of affiliation

The guide on the extension process lists these documents to keep ready for upload:
- Land certificate — proof of land ownership
- Building safety certificate
- Fire safety certificate
- Sanitation (health and hygiene) certificate
- Staff qualification details for teaching staff
- Public disclosure page on the school website, up to date
- Updated OASIS data
Common problems that cause delays
- Expired certificates. Fire and building safety certificates have validity dates. Check every expiry date before uploading.
- Mismatched data. The number of sections, teachers and students in OASIS, on your website's mandatory disclosure page and in your SARAS application should match.
- Built-up area and sections. The same guide notes that, under the amended Appendix-V, three sections are allowed for 400 sq. m of built-up area, with more sections in proportion to additional area. If you've added sections, make sure your certified built-up area supports them.
- Unsigned or unclear scans. Upload clear, complete, signed copies — not phone photos of partial pages.
Step-by-step: applying on SARAS 7.0
The process, as described in the extension guide, is:
- Log in to the SARAS portal with your school's credentials.
- Select "Extension of Affiliation."
- Fill in the application — infrastructure, teaching staff, facilities and compliance declarations.
- Upload the required certificates and supporting documents.
- Pay the applicable fee through the portal.
- Review and submit. Download and save a copy of the submitted application.
- Track your status and respond to any query or compliance request within the stated time.
Assign clear owners
Affiliation work fails when "everyone" is responsible. Name one person for each part:
| Task | Suggested owner |
|---|---|
| Land, building, fire and sanitation certificates | School manager or administrator |
| Staff qualification records | Principal's office |
| OASIS and website disclosure update | Data/IT in-charge |
| SARAS upload and fee payment | Principal (final check) |
| Daily check of SARAS status and email | Office in-charge |
After you submit: getting ready for inspection
If your category involves an inspection, use the waiting time well:

- Keep originals in one file — every certificate you uploaded, in the same order as the SARAS form.
- Walk the campus with the checklist: fire extinguishers within their refill date, clear exits, clean and separate toilets for boys and girls, working drinking-water points and a functional library and labs.
- Brief your staff on what the committee may ask: teacher qualifications, timetables, safety drills and student records.
- Check the website once more. The public disclosure page is often the first thing reviewers look at, and outdated information creates doubts.
A well-organised visit also reassures parents and teachers that the school takes compliance seriously.
A 10-day action plan
- Day 1: Read the latest SARAS circular on Extension of Affiliation. Note your exact deadline.
- Days 2–4: Collect every certificate and check expiry dates. Start renewals at once if needed.
- Days 5–6: Update OASIS and the mandatory public disclosure page so the numbers match.
- Days 7–8: Fill the SARAS form and upload documents. Get a second person to check every field.
- Day 9: Pay the fee and submit. Save the acknowledgement.
- Day 10: Set a recurring reminder to check SARAS for queries until the extension is granted.
Remember the bigger picture: affiliation is a check on whether your school is safe, properly staffed and run with transparency. The CBSE Affiliation Bye-Laws, 2018 remain the reference for general compliance.
